Great article in SportsCar, the official pub of the SCCA, on the sometimes lost art of applying both feet in during a spin. Worth reading for all: "Be a Good Spinner" on page 20 written by Randy Pobst.

Excerpt: " ......Your out of options. You ain't gonna catch this slide. Your new mission is to minimize damage. Object : the best case harmless spin. Worst case: four car pileup and broken bones. .......slamming the brakes and clutch does 2 things for you -- make that 3. One, it slows you as soon as possible -- always good when in trouble. Two, makes your path predictable to the car behind bearing down on you at 100 mph. When the brakes are locked your car will continue on the very path it was on when the brakes were applied. And 3, it gets your overanxious right foot off the gas, the pedal that got u in trouble to start with...Any time you have lost control, slam on the brakes and clutch. It will keep you from mulitplying your troubles by rolling back into traffic which is the cause of some of the worst of our incidemts. If you spin, both feet in. "

It should be "Before You Spin, Both Feet In".

The sooner you know you are screwing up the corner, the sooner you can take the appropriate action.....which may be BOTH FEET IN!

Tim is right, the sooner the better, for all parties involved. Not putting both feet is just as egregious as plowing into the side of a fellow competitor during a pass, and will be ruled upon the same way when applying the driver conduct standards.
