Does anyone know how to tell if a hydraulic lifer on the 944 are good or bad. I have them all out, two of them I can compress and they never stiffen up. the rest don't move at all.

The two you can compress with your thumb are suspect. Probably a leaking check valve. Most of the time these just make annoying lifter tick on start up, but I have a hard time trusting the suspect ones for an engine that I expect sustained high rpm use out of. I think they "pump down" and rob performance. Greg f

I suspect that they are all bad. A good lifter should "pump up". I found some good info here.
