Post subject:  how to wire fuel pump for switch
I want to eliminate the DME relay and as much wiring as possible. I wish to wire a toggle to turn "on" the fuel pump. Question is how can this be done to safely run and pass tech?

We typically wire our cars with a heavy duty 3 way switch that allows the car to run as stock, through the dme relay, or on all the time bypassing the relay. The third position is used to pump out the car without ignition power for the purpose of pumping fuel out for tech or verifying fuel quantity. The problem I have with bypassing the relay all the time is a question of the required amperage to operate a fuel pump under racing conditions. The switch used must be rated
at 25 amps continuous duty or better to insure it can carry the required load.
These switches are actually hard to find, most auto part stores carry pathetic little plastic switches now. Greg F

i took the dme relay out found out the hot line cut and spliced the wire and ran to two switched one computer and one fuel pump then ran other side of switched to the other 2 leads that the relay went too. this is nice because i can check for spark ect without running the fuel pump much safer and have never had problems other than one caused by myself using an ww2 fighter plane switch i sourced from my grandfathers garage (old navy plane mechanic) switch was way past its useful life but it was sooo cool haha. oh and everything else i basically cut out one wire at a time and started the car between each cut to make sure i didn't cut anything necessary
