Can an early model transmission be directly mounted in a later model (1988) 944 directly or is there any modification required?

Top bolt on the trans is different on the early models (ie. non-existant to my knowledge) thus the mounting points won't all lineup.

Earlier and late can be interchanged with use of proper tranny mounts.

Some of the early 016 transmissions do not have the mounting ear that the later trans mount needs. To get around this I have welded plates to the late trans crossbar to allow the stock early mounts to bolt up to this bar. You will not have a speedo, but the car will drive. Greg F

Is there any issue with fitting a tranny from a 1989 2.5NA? I think the gear ratios are slightly different, if I am not mistaken.

The 89 should have identical ratios with the exception of 5th gear, which should be the shorter .829 instead of the .729. Greg F
