I would like to ask 944 Cup racers that have had a front spindle failure to tell the rest of the list what happened. Specifically:
1. was it a pre-85.5 LH spindle with the hole for the speedo cable? 2. Did the car ever have contact on the same side the failure occured that ruined a wheel? 3. Were ball joint spacers or aftermarket arms with a raised balljoint pick up in use? 4. How much front camber was in use at the time of the failure? 5. Were long studs and wheel spacers being used? 6. How wide were the front wheels?
Thanks everyone, Greg F

Hey Greg:
I know these break, but it has actually been years since I saw one go at the track. Maybe everyone has upgraded to the solid spindle

We had a competitor, ( not running in Cup) break a RF spindle at Thunderhill last year. The car was an 87, but was using 86 951 spindles and brakes. He was using a 1" ball joint re-location kit, -3.0 camber and a 9" wide front wheel. The break showed signs of a pre-break condition from a prior wheel to wheel incident with another car. The break showed signs of corrosion and distress separate fron the actual break. He has since removed the raised ball joint pins and has not broken any others. My race car is an 83 model that has been raced continuously since 1998 and shows no signs of stress cracks or risers as yet. Greg F
