Ok, time to post a note here after the third phone call this year from a 944 owner looking for a replacement wiring harness.
WARNING! Most all of the hub kits that mount an aftermarket steering wheel to an 83-85.5 944 are actually designed for the 85.5 and up cars. What this means is the tang that sticks out the back of the hub that is designed to cancel the turn signals is about 50% too long. Turning the wheel will produce a significant short that will burn the ignition, headlight and related wiring under the dash. Before installing any aftermarket steering wheel hub be sure and check the clearance of the cancelling tang. I cut them off about halfway up and they work fine. Greg F
