Followed advise here on the forum on building new exhaust. built out of 2.5 inch mild steel pipe with the ball flange suggested by Greg F Problem is the shifter is very VERY hot to the touch. The new ball flange is located below the shifter. I thought it might be leaking. It was not leaking. Anyone have this problem?? Do I need to wrap the exhaust or install a barrier type mat in the tunnel?

Can't comment on the ball flange, but with my standard three bolt manifold connection, after a race-distance drive, my aluminum shift lever with aluminum knob is normally too hot to touch without gloves.
