I have found that using some lightweight reflective heat barrier in the tunnel really helps keep the heat away from the shifter and firewall. I only cover the are directly behind the bell housing and around the exhaust back to just in front of the shifter. It can be purchased from BSR or Pegasus. I also have an aluminum knob and it is only warm now, not hot. Greg

Oh, I should mention that I leave the factory foam surround in and replaced the rubber shift boot as well. Greg F
