Now that I have the answer to my crankshaft question, I have another.
I have a after market cam that I would like to use in my 2.7. It came out of my race 2.5.
I do not know the lift and duration of this cam, but it worked well in the 2.5
As best I can see, the cams I have seen all have very similar lift and duration.
Would the race cam I have likely work in the 2.7 engine?

Hey Mark,

In answer to your latest questions:

1)To my understanding, aftermarket cams are illegal in 944 Cup (PCA prep), regarding other classes they may be legal.

2)Cant quote you P/N's but 2.7L cams are different.

As a note, if you bend a 2.7L intake valve they are double the price of 2.5L same equip. Also quite difficult to find 2.7L parts on the street....and in our world. A 2.7L Cup car hasent won a race in 3 years, 2.5L is more than adequate and considerably easier to replace parts and cheaper to repair.

With that said, I do have a wide selection of engine and chassis parts available from engine parts to complete engines to A-Arms to complete chassis' to front chassis clips and one OEM hardtop roof available.

Thanks
Big Joe

Joe, in your world the 2.5 may win but in the southern region, the only winners are 2.7 and if they have $4000 worth of Motons, they are assured a podium. Now I need to get a second job to buy some remote shocks.
Thanks for the info on the cam, I have a Milledge cam from a E Prod SCCA car and was wondering what 944 in would fit in. Thought I might sell it for a down payment on those Motons.

The E prod cam would not be legal in either Prep 1 or Prep 2 cars. I agree with Joe that the way to go is to build a stout 2.5 and have fun! You could sell the cam and various 2.7 parts to your competitors and build an 88 spec 2.5, get your car down to weight and see for yourself if the 2.7 is still the way to go... Greg F

There has been on one Round of racing in the new Southern Chapter, so to say a 2.7 and Motons are needed to win is misleading and inaccurate.

In Florida Chapter, now part of the Southern Chapter, no driver has won more races and taken more podiums then Nick Reifner, who to my knowledge has never raced a 2.7 in his 944, nor has he has raced with Motons or remote. The same can be said for the former SouthEast Chapter which has been dominated with wins and podimus over the last several by the Crowell boys. ps. Nick has already a race in the one Rd of Southern Chapter racing in 2011.

More relevant to having a good finish in the South and other Cup chapters is having a good driver in the seat where the steering wheel and pedals are accessible.

Wow, How can you possibly compare a pro driver in Nick with us long suffering amateur racers. He has raced professional for many years.
I do not know how it is in the northern regions, but in the south, I have raced in the cup for 2 years and my UN professional opinion is the guys that are somewhere on the podium, are running a 2.7 and motons or some combo like that.
You have outlawed the ITS cars this December, are you going to outlaw the 2.7 next December?

No one has outlawed the 22 ITS ( Prep 2) 944 race cars here in the NW ( or anywhere else...), and there are 4 more being built this year. I think with the recent adjustments in weight and power the ITS spec cars are a great way to race in 944 Cup without dropping the big bucks in dampers and lightweight bodyparts. Greg F
