As discussed in another thread within this Topic, first consideration at this point is holding Nationals with SWC/SCCA Pro Racing in Sept at VIR. If this first choice shoudl fall thru, the next two likely options are VIR with NASA the same date as this year in Oct or running with SCCA Nov 5-7 – American Road Race of Champions presented by GRM at Road Atlanta (20-lap race on Saturday, Three Hour on Sunday) ( http://www.atlantascca.org/arrc.html ). Obvious PR advantages for the ARRC event because of GRM. To run with SCCA ( Club Race), we can run our current prep rules. We’d have to join SCCA as full members ( $85 per year right now) but we would NOT need to get an SCCA license (unlike NASA, SCCA now allows you to compete at our events with a PCA, BMWCCA or NASA license).SCCA is very anxious for us to run our Nationals with them at this event.

Dave please clarify that I'm understanding the priorities for the 2010 National Championship. They appear to be in this order:
1. A three race Championship in conjunction with events held by SWC/SCCA the weekends of: May 22 --23 @ Mosport, June 26-27@ NJMP, and Sep. 11-12 @ VIR. 2. A one race Championship in conjunction wit h the single SWC/SCCA weekend of Sep. 1-12 @ VIR. 3. SCCA Nov 5-7 – American Road Race of Champions presented by GRM at Road Atlanta 4. VIR with NASA in October.

Options 2, 3 and 4 are acceptable. Of course RA is only 20 minutes away so I really like option 3

Not to complicate matters but we may consider WGI with NASA NE at the end of October.

comatb wrote: 3. SCCA Nov 5-7 – American Road Race of Champions presented by GRM at Road Atlanta . More details: The preliminary schedule for the 2010 ARRC by GRM has two 20-minute qualifying sessions on Friday where the second one is gridded based on the time you turned in Session #1. Because it reduces the chances of catching traffic (all the slower cars are together at the back), this gives you a better opportunity to get a clean lap in the afternoon. Your grid spot for Saturday’s 20-lap Championship race is determined by your best lap on Friday regardless of which session you turned it in. We’d also add SP2 & SP3 to the Three Hour on Sunday (separate 25-minute qualifier in the morning) if some of your guys wanted to stay over. 25 cars for your own group? Probably not. 35+? SCCA definitely be willing to talk about it. Under SCCA guidelines we can start 65 cars at Road Atlanta (25 cars per mile of track length), so with 25 of your guys and 25 ITR/ITS guys we’d have enough cars to make it interesting but not so many that it’s dangerous. SCCA has done split starts in the past with as few as eight cars, so that should be no problem. Another option could be to have two SWC events and the SCCA ARRC. This provides a race in the North, a race in the MidAtlantic, and a race in the South. Very fair to all for a National Championship series.

Can you explain this 3 race championship scheme you guys are discussing? So the SCCA event at Road Atlanta has total track time of: 2 - 20 minute qualifing sessions on Friday 1 - 20 lap race on Saturday (40 to 45 minutes)- Race #1 1 - 20 minutes qualifying race on Sunday - Race #2 1 - 180 minute Enduro on Sunday For the second race on Sunday we (944Cup) could call it a 45 minute race and they (SCCA) could throw a Checker Flag just for us? Race #3 That could be be two 40 to 45 minute races and one 20 minutes race to decide the National Championship instead of two 7 lap baby sprint races:(

The idea is a 3 weekend mini series with the high points racer the National Champion. The number of races in the 3 weekends is still undetermined, likely between 3 and 5, but u would get 2 points for each weekend you register for, plus points for each race you start. Could provide for one race drop to keep the battle close. Each race woudl also count towards regional points in the chapters where the race is being held. Prize money too of course, it's a pro series.

SCCA has also offered our National race on Sunday. SCCA would give us a single 20 minute qualifying session Sunday morning, then a 25-lap race first thing after lunch on Sunday. We could have your own group on the 25 lap Sunday championship race.
The above goes along with a 20 min. and 15 min qual session on Friday, 20 lap split start race on Saturday, and Sunday as discussed above.
