Very sad news. :( While I didn't know Jersey as well as some others, he was always a class act and super fast racer. If I recall correctly, he picked up most or all of the tab for the 2008 Cup banquet at NJMP. Always thought that was an extremely generous act and seems even more so now. Will gladly be a part of any memorial activities.

I'm so sad to hear this =( Joe was really a great guy and great driver. Always willing to help me out, whether I needed some tires or needed a beer. He did the same for anyone in the paddock. Hard to believe I won't see him again :(

Thanks Steve. Pizza, wings and martini's, all you can drink and eat. Steve, Buy all you need, I have the costs covered. Make it so we have enough for everyone to overindulge. Also arranging for catering with Manny's in Millville for pizza and wings for Saturday after the race. Its on the House.

Mike told me about Jersey Joe's passing today. It's sad news to say the least. He always spoke super highly of Joe and his family. Growing up in NY, his Jersey accent was something I loved to hear at the track. One of my favorite memories was at VIR a few years ago. His wife and kids were at the race to support him for the weekend. They were all acting as spotters around the track on headsets for the race. That's some severe dedication and support from the whole family. It showed their competitiveness and the great relationship he had with his family. This is the stuff most of us dream about.

When I got the news late last week, shock was my first reaction, not Jersey Joe, a picture of health.

First my condolences to the whole family, particularly Maye and Hayden who I saw and interacted with regularly at events with Joe, very very sad.

Like many of the other posts, I to got to race with Joe.... (not necessarily as close as Steve or Chris) but on one occasion at CMP Jersey Joe and Big Joe were on the front row leading the pack to the green flag, though I was first thru turns 1 and 2, Jersey Joe's attack plan had resolved itself by turn 3, my one nose to tail race moment with him. But dozens of fun paddock times and moments, a real class act.

Joe and the family are in my thoughts and prayers.

We will "roast and toast" in your honor this weekend, a real human, a real racer, a real loss.

Also: at VIR last weekend, I spoke with Chris Cobetto, who also knew Joe well, a short bio of Joe's race savy and champion wins, both regional and national was given during the awards ceremony, followed by a moment of silence.
