Post subject:  Q&A -- Body Parts

Just wanted to go over a few points that questions keep coming in on and some clarifications:

Question: Are fiberglass fenders, doors or hood allowed in Stock and/or Prepared?
Answer: No except for the 924S and 944 lite in SC.

Question: Are fiberglass header panels and/or fiberglass headlite covers allowed in Stock and/or Prepared?
Answer: No except for the 924S and 944 lite in SC.

Question: Are Turbo fenders, headlight covers and/or header panel allowed on a normally aspirated 944 in Prepared or Stock?
Answer: Yes. This has been a gray area for too long. Dont see any measurable performance advantage for interchanging turbo and NA fenders and header panel.

Question: Can the stock Turbo rear underspoiler be used on a NA car in Stock and/or Prepared?
Answer: No. Once thought to acceptable as a part of the mods allowed with the rear bumper and below, the underspoiler goes beyond the bumper and below rule as it extends forward of the rear of the car.

...And extending outside of the rear bumper envelope causes them to run afoul of "Modifications to the underside of the car for the purpose of improving aero effects are not allowed" rule?

Steve I see the determining factor being that it is a modification to the underside of the car and improves underside areodynamics ........ whatever the width.

Looks like the base weight for the PCA prepared cars needs to go to 2650lb to eliminate the need to buy all these expensive fragile bodyparts.... ;) (This would be better than lowering the ITS weight that already doesn't allow any of this.) Greg F

Q. Are NACA ducts legal that bring air in for cooling the drivers?
A. Yes, but their size/shape or function must not make their primary function
aero advantages.

Q. Can Lexan windows be louvered/vented ?
A. Not for Stock, but yes for Prepared which is in line with the same for all body panels.

Q. Can lexan be used to replace stock door windows.
A. Yes, as long as they stay in the fully down position while on track.

Q. Can the gaps around the headlight covers be taped over and/or permanently filled in with body putty and/or similar materials.
A. Yes. We have allowed taped to be used to cover these gaps, and using filler only serves to have the same effect.

At the 48hrs of Sebring, 2 944Cup cars were using a single piece fiberglass nose (replacing bumper, splitter, headlight covers and header panel). I am looking at this myself. Legal?

This issue was discussed at Sebring and made clear that these are not legal.

This is from the first post in this thread.
