Current Super Cup rules provide: ...Fenders can be flared front and rear... and ...Wheels are free....
.

For 2014, we are considering some change to the Super Cup rules that provide for some limitation on wheels, tires and flares for Super Cup. This may be done thru either the wheel, tire size or the fender mods. Concerned leaving the width of the car and/or wheels unrestricted could become too costly to remain competitive in the class.

Vote your preference. Thanks

In this regard, expecting to limit wheel size to 10 inches all the way around for all SC models.

I was sailing when this came up. While I don't currently use them, there are a lot of 11" wheels that are used to mount 315/18 rubber. Why not just limit the tire size ala 944Cup. The difference in tire price is minimal.

In our vetting of this proposal, no one has come forward that was using 11" wheels that objected.

Based on more driver feedback, the 10 inch limit on the wheel width for 2014 has been reexamined and will be increased to 11 inch for the rear. The reason being the PCA rules allow for some 944 based cars racing in the Prepared classes to use 11 inch wheels in the rear, thus making it easier for these to cars to also race Super Cup ( or PCA SP3).

After much discussion at Nationals regarding this change, we are going to change the approach for limiting width of the car. Instead of limiting the wheel size to 11 inch in the rear and 10 inches in the front, the rule will be changed to allow the wheel size to be free in SC, and instead limit the max tire section width to 305. This directly controls the contact patch while allowing drivers to use their existing wheels which can be more expensive and difficult to replace. This approach also makes tech checks for easy and accurate for officials.

Section Width

Following the letter(s) that identify the type of vehicle and/or type of service for which the tire was designed, the three-digit numeric portion identifies the tire's "Section Width" (cross section) in millimeters.

P305/35R16

The 305 indicates this tire is 305 millimeters across from the widest point of its outer sidewall to the widest point of its inner sidewall. The published section width can be effected by the wheel size being used to mount the tire, but we deem to be negligible for this competitive situation.

The question has been asked if the LeMans or GT fenders are legal.

Per the rules: Front fenders, doors, engine hood, headlamp covers can be replaced with identical parts of size and shape and fenders flared.

The LeMans or GT fenders ( www.gt-racing.com/products-page/9249449 ... enders-pr/) are not considered legal and rather then fender flares that part would be considered to be wide fenders that change size and shape of the fender beyond fender flaring.

Dave, have you really limited car width at this point, however? How big a flare can you use? I could add six inch flares all around, and space my wheels such to take advantage of that width, in theory, while still using the 305 width tire. I need to talk to you about multiple things, so I think we need to set up a phone call. Any times better for you than others?

Hoosier doesn't make 305 profiles in 16,17 or 18 inch widths. The biggest 16 is 275, 17 and 18 inch tires are available in 315 profiles which fit on 11 inch wheels. Since most of us use Hoosiers, the rules should take into account what is actually available.
