Giving consideration to making factory ABS not legal in the Cup class for 2011. Believe ABS was only available on the 1989 model for Cup class cars so dont think we have many cars running ABS currently. As I understand fairly easy to make the ABS nonfunctional.

Looking for input on this proposed change.

As one of the few owners of an 89, I'm against it. I run stock brakes at a much higher weight. The 89 chassis is very hard to get down to the legal competitive weight. I can't get a 100 lbs or so below the legal class weight and then ballast the car in an advantagious manner like a lot of folks. ABS is one of the few advantages that compenstate for the higher weight of my car in competing against the 2.5's. Mass is mass and the extra 8 hp doesn't really help against cars weighing 150 lbs less.

I agree. I have a 1989 body to build a 944Cup car and was looking forward to at least experimenting with the ABS.

I've been racing a 88 924S as Prepared with 944 turbo front brakes for years now at 2750 pounds. Let the 89 cars keep the factory ABS systems.

I don't agree and here is why;
- you have the torque advantage and thats why you have the extra 150lbs
- Add some rain and the ABS is definitely and unfair advantage.

Some input from the other side ;)

FYI, here is a letter from PCNA confirming that the 1988 944 which was a 2.5 could be had with optional ABS.

Edit: Witholding my comments for now. Curious where this will go.

Should we really go down the road of banning things with a limited advantage, at most, just because doing so will only impact a few guys? Where will this end . . .

If this rule comes into being on the Cup side, I assume it would make it to Supercup too. Mix of ABS either optional, standard or N/A from the factory on the various models too. It would impact a lot of people there, due to all of the later cars having it standard. That would really be the end to SuperCup, last nail in coffin.

Not a logical assumption as we just made all items brake related free in SC for 2011. So try to keep that nail in yur pocket for now.

For those currently using ABS in Cup class, my question to you is do you think it is fair or an advantage when compared to nonABS brakes?

All those that don't have ABS think it is an advantage. Those that have it are too smart to answer. :P
