Clarification- Chips in 2011

Please clarify the rule for chips in 2011. I read the posting and responses and seem to be a little confused (though it is not anything new for me:))

I have an early DME (1983 car) and it does not have the plug in chip though I could rechip it if I buy a BMW DME and mate it with my DME (according to what I have read). Because of this, I run a stock DME. I am also SCCA prep so I run the SCCA tires, stock dme, and etc.

Do I need to get my DME inspected and sealed? Do the new chips being used in the series provide an advantage or are they "stock"?

Thanks

Joey Sullivan

Good questions. For anyone else with the same questions, You can run an early dme with a stock chip. However, if you want to be eligible to win tires and to be a Cup Regional Champ or our National Champion, you will need to have a certifed one map chip and sealed stock dme. To satify this requirement, you will need to convert your early stock dme to accept a new chip or use a late stock dme.
