In 2010, the Cup rules included the SP1/944 Spec cars as legal for the series and allowed numerous addtional modifications beyond those allowed by the PCA SP1/NASa Spec rules.

In 2011, the Cup rules will continue to allow the SP1/Spec cars to run in the series but will not be afforded any additional Cup modifications as in prior years. They will run in the Cup as per the PCA SP1/NASA 944 Spec rules.

Yes Dave - we're also very interested in the reply regrding the 2500lb weight allowance. Because of that we have purchased 2 new sets of RA1,s for next year- so please don't say say it's so !

The 2011 rules for SP2 and 944 Cup class have the Spec cars running as set forth by the PCA SP1 and NASA Spec rules, that includes the weight and any and all other requirements of thos e rulesets.

Thsi was done to simplify the our rules and especially the ruleset for PCA which were near impossible to understand with the back and forth between classes and charts. Considering we did not have any Spec cars racing in the 944 Cup that utitlized our additional mods and lower weight, I didnt have any reason to disagree with the PCA for thechanges.

So we will need to add 100lbs of ballast back on - but can basically use any DOT tire within the rim rules ?

The Cup rules have have always been written with the intent of including as many 944 race cars as possible. Along that line, a 944 prepared to Spec rules can compete just as it sits or the car can be shod with any tire and run as a Cup class Stock car. Both would be at 2600 lbs.

Madmax: Which races were you planning to race yur SP1 car with the series for 2011? Current weight with driver? Are u still planning to race SP1 with PCA or Spec with NASA?

Dave- Our car weighs around 2510 or so with driver. We are only planning to run 944 Cup events- not PCA specifically. Not sure of which events yet - but probably concentrating on the Canada schedule for sure. We were hoping to take advantage of the 2500 lb weight and using the RA'1's as per your 2010 rules- and hence we purchased 2 new sets of tires last month. It won't stop us from competing- but not sure why the rule change. We thought the 100lb. weight reduction was made as an incentive for the SP1 cars. It's not a deal breaker but certainly a disappointment.
