it usually works that each session builds to the next one. Fastest lap from Practice 3 is usually the qualifier for Race 1. The Fun Race/Practice Starts don't count for anything and are optional except for rookies. Fastest lap (or possibly finishing position) from Race 1 determines grid for Race 2. That's how it usually goes, but my response is not to be considered official.

Thanks Frank just seemed weird practice 3 wasn't just called Race 1 qualifying.

In the "Old Days" of PCA racing (maybe 2 or 3 years ago), there didn't used to be as many races each weekend, so PCA Friday was P1, P2, P3, Fun races. Sat was Warmup, Qualy, Sprint and done. Sunday was Warmup and Enduro. Now that there's 2 sometimes 3 sprint races, something had to give, so as Frank says, usually they pick the fast lap from P3 as the qual time for Race 1. But it's still considered a Practice session and treated that way by the officials. They still keep the P1/P2/P3/FunRace schedule on Fri as that's also the race schooling that rookies get to get their license.

Grid position may have added importance this weekend. We have two writers and photographers on assignment for Porsche Panorama and Club Race News to cover the record breaking field of 944's. Being upfront on the opening lap could be a real good chance to get in either or both publications.

That was my main thought Dave. If your not near the front it can turn into a parking lot or demolition derby depending on what happens.

This is very cool, but to be honest, I've been on the cover of Club Racing News, and I'm still waiting for the phone to ring....
