A few cars have used the quarter windows for a variety of ducting purposes which hasn't been legal. I don't see any reason not to allow this but a discussion here may help clear this up one way or the other.

As you know Bill, I installed the ducts in the last part of this year for driver cooling. I've spent a lot of time and money trying to cool myself down in the car this year. Actually wish I didn't at Nationals, I couldn't feel my toes after Saturday's race.
It is covered under rule 8.1.6(j) Ducting may be added to provide fresh air to the driver/passenger compartment providing that no modifications to body panels are made to accommodate the ducting.
I guess with this rule it depends if windows are considered body panels or not. To me body panel means sheet metal but others may consider windows as well. Maybe we just need to clarify. So I support a clarification on this as well. I don't feel it should be allowed for any other reason then driver cooling or to direct air at the windshield.

If it is not an issue, why bring it up?

We have allowed ducting of the quarters windows and actually gave away as a prize in the early years. I believe the rules reference by Chris L covers it.

Dave thanks for the clarification. I always think that asking first is the best way to do it rather than being told to change the car and/or being illegal.
